B I N H N G U Y E N - DEPARTURE POINT

Hey guys, my name is Binh! I’m currently a Senior, Visual Studies major. I transferred to Temple two years ago from FIT where I was a photography major ( I wasn’t happy with what I was making there, where photography became an obligation rather a hobby)…BUT here I am! I love to shoot people but I can honestly shoot anything…I feel like photography gives me an opportunity to show other people how I see the world.

I was first introduced to photography by my mom, who LOVES to shoot film...so I asked for a camera of my own during Christmas of 2009. I started shooting and applied to this summer art program called The Governor’s School of the Arts for summer of 2010. I was later accepted and got an opportunity to meet other photographers my age and that was when I fell in love with photography. Four years later and here I am – I still shoot film for fun but it can get pretty pricey after a while, so most of my work are digital L *sad face*

I look forward to produce a lot of photographs this semester…like, physical photographs where I can actually hold it instead of saving everything onto my hard drive. I’ve never done transfers or cyanotype before this, so this will be a great learning experience! I’ve always done photography and it’s probably the only medium that I have a great control over so I’m interested to see how I can incorporate what I already learn in previous photography classes with what I will learn in this hybrid class so I can become a better artist.

….AND I’m super excited to learn different techniques from everyone and to shoot with you guys!

  1. It's crazy to me that you've only owned a camera since the winter of 2009. You are SO GOOD at portrait photography, and I mean SO! GOOD! The quality of the images you showed in class completely blow me away, I had figured you had been shooting your whole life to get to that point. I can only imagine how much better you will get on top of that in the years to come. I need to step up my game, haha.
