I'm Claire Moclock and this is my work.
I've spent most of my years in DuBois,
PA – a small run down town, located about an hour west of State
College. Fortunately, I transferred to Temple last fall from Penn
State. I'm currently in the midst of my junior year as a Visual
Studies major. Although I enjoy other art forms, photography has been
my medium of choice for as long as I can remember.
As some may know, I took a bad fall
this past spring when I was out taking pictures. I became
overwhelmingly discouraged by my concussion and other injuries. I was
practically immobile, but what bothered me most was how my work was
affected as a photographer. In addition to not getting out much to
shoot, using my camera proved to be a challenge. I had to think
critically about something that I used to do with such ease prior to
the accident. All of this has really made me appreciate my abilities,
both mentally and physically.
Thankfully, I've nearly made a full
recovery this summer and couldn't be more excited for this semester
since I'm able to get out and shoot as I used to.
The only thing DuBois and Philadelphia
have in common is the fact that I call both places “home”.
Otherwise, they're on complete opposite ends of an urban/rural scale.
With that being said, I want to take what I shot in DuBois this
summer and generate the Philadelphia equivalent then proceed to
arrange them into a contrasting series. In order to do that I need to
do more street shooting here in philly. I intend to use two
different, yet complimentary, processes for the series.
I'm highly intrigued by the chemistry
and physics of alternative processes and hope to do a great deal of
experimentation with other objects, chemicals and materials in
addition to what we'll be learning in class. Hopefully, the only
accidents that I'll encounter this time will be happy ones through
trial and error processing.
